Patrick McMaster

Residence: Montréal, Canada

A multi-instrumentalist and intermedia artist, Pat McMaster moved to Montréal in part to further his research of the ondes Martenot, a rare, early electronic music instrument with a devoted community in the city. His preoccupation with the role that interface plays in shaping electronic music naturally lead him to the designs of Don Buchla and the Music Easel, his primary composition and performance instrument. Drawing influence from the pioneering work of the BBC Radiophonic workshop and Pierre Schaeffer’s GRMC, along with musicians like Suzanne Ciani, Laurie Spiegel, Oskar Sala, Dariush Dolat-Shahi and l’Ensemble d’ondes de Montréal, Pat continues to mine the possibilities of the past in order to look to the future of what is possible in the exploration of timbre, expressiveness and rhythm. In addition to his solo work, Pat is also half of the experimental duo Urane and has collaborated with Modular Mondays cohorts Ismail Negm, Daniel Áñez, Paddy Mulcahy, Andrew Kilpatrick and Thomas Dupouy.
