Residence: Köln, Germany
Verena Hentschel is a German composer and artist from Cologne. In her works she combines abstract paintings with electronic compositions to create animated and immersive short films. The main focus in her electronic compositions is on repetitive sound structures that are connected with the bodily experience when listening to this kind of music. Her compositions are based on her field recordings and range between rhythmic-percussive and experimental. She is currently exploring work with sound and visuals and the surrounding room (multi-channel and multivideo). Hentschel is presently finishing her master’s studies in Integrative Composition / Electronic Composition at ICEM/Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen this year. Before that she received a Bachelor of Music in visual music and double bass at Institute for Music and Media / Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf.
