Michael Manion has appeared as a soloist at venues including the Ought-One Festival in Vermont, Logos in Gent, Amsterdam’s Zaal 100 (The Workshop/Maximum Clarity), and De Badcuyp (Karnatic Lab), the Royal Conservatory in the Hague, Cologne’s Musikhochschule (KGNM Festival), GALERIE FÜR KLANG UND INTERMEDIALE KUNST, Feedback Studio Hinterhausmusik, and Fendi’s in Los Angeles. He has also been a member of symphony orchestras, new music ensembles, pit orchestras, jazz bands, and rock groups. His compositions have been performed at venues such as the San Francisco’s Old First Concerts and 20th Century Forum, the Trapezium tour (Den Haag, Amsterdam and Essen), Rheinisches Musikfest, EX MACHINA, Cologne’s Alte Feuerwache and IFM Musiknacht, Institute for Sonology in Den Haag/Utrecht, and broadcast over National Public Radio, the NonPop International Network, and the West German Radio.
He has a Bachelor of Music degree from the Oberlin Conservatory, and a Master of Music degree from the University of Illinois, and has also studied at the Mills College Centre for Contemporary Music, the Musikhochschule in Cologne, and the University of Sussex. He is a former assistant to Karlheinz Stockhausen, a founding member of Gimik: Initiative Musik und Informatik Köln e.V, and his compositions are published by the Feedback Studio Verlag, Cologne.
