Tripping to Greece Barbara Golden

I am a divorcee of 35 who has taken a few music courses and become infatuated and decided to become a composer. Couldn’t be that hard. Ha, ha. I want to go to Mills College and study with Terry Riley. But I have never done a tape piece! I am highly emotional in these years. I sob to my composition teacher, Kevin Austin, what shall I do. “Calm down, Barb,” that infuriatingly flat English accent remonstrates. “Do your poems.” Oh yeah, I have just started to write poems. So we layer me reading the poems, then some improvisation on the piano, plus some Synthi, and we have “Tripping to Greece”, from where I had just returned. Terry Riley liked it and the rest is history, I guess. BG
