Éjszaka Annie Mahtani

Éjszaka has two main sources: recordings made in the Hungarian countryside and a cellist improvising to these sounds. The piece is an exploration of this material, traversing between ‘real’ and ‘abstract’ sound worlds. It was also influenced by Ákos Fodor’s poem, Evening.

One more bird whistle

nits a needly-peek quick hole

in the darkness of silence:

escaping the outside light

Éjszaka was realised in the electroacoustic studios at The University of Birmingham between November 2004 and March 2005.
