breathe jef chippewa, João Miguel Pais
one possible interpretation of a pre-defined formal/sonic plan prescribed by samuel beckett for his play breath…
a composition employing unmediated cultural heritage — be it form, technique, recorded sounds — might be better appreciated as an analytical methodology to the understanding of the source rather than a composition in its own right. when, through its mediation, recognition of the source identity is somewhat blurred, even obliterated, a context can be developed in which the existence of the new work is not justified simply through umbilical reference to the original.
thanks to christian billian for providing some of the sound materials.
