Strictly Biological Arthur Gottschalk

Strictly Biological was created for an Intergalactic Music Festival in Galveston, Texas, and premiered there. The text was written by Malcolm Brodwick, a biophysicist and Fellow of the Max Planck Institute. The text was recorded, assembled, edited, and layered into the ProTools environment. Each layer of text was then processed and staggered in relation to other layers, creating the effect of a mass of liquid sound, capturing, losing, and then recapturing the listener’s attention. It is one of a series by the composer of electroacoustic environments using text-sound, which series includes Pirouette (text: Malcolm Brodwick) and Persephone’s Ode to Jack Kerouac (text: Michele Brangwen).
