Bhairavi Sundar Subramanian

“Bhairavi” was composed in 2003 using Cubase and Reason on a Mac G4. All the sounds in the piece are derived from samples of a strum and a plucked harmonic on an out-of-tune electric guitar. “Bhairavi” is the name of the Hindustani raga for the early morning, the source of the pitch material for the piece. This is a piece rooted largely in the minimalist tradition, drawing sometimes on the sonic æsthetic of contemporary electronica, that explores relationships and interplay between contrasting sets of patterns.
