Guest John J.A. Jannone

Guest was commissioned by the Anita Cheng Dance Company. It was created using custom FM synthesis software developed in the Max/MSP programming environment. Parameters of the synthesis are modulated by asynchronous looping envelopes, creating variety over time based on a simple set of initial conditions. This is a musical analogy to a simple real-life event being played out in a multitude of possible permutations — in this case, a woman’s preparation for the arrival of a guest, which is also the basis of the choreography.
