forgotten sonata no.10 Sebastiane Hegarty

forgotten sonata no.10* is re-composed from the digital remains of a purposefully ruined CD (John Cage: Sonatas and Interludes for Prepared Piano). The CD player, unable to re-organise the data on the damaged surface, re-composes the information through a process of performed forgetting. In forgotten sonata no.10, a recording of one such ‘performance’ is replayed inside a grand piano ‘prepared’ with dozens of tiny speakers.

* Recorded at the University of Winchester Chapel, with the kind permission and assistance of Jonathan Watkins and Vicky White
