Pro.Fumo Dante Tanzi

third version, for Flugelhorn, “Functional Performer” and two computers.

This piece has been produced at LIM, Laboratorio di Informatica Musicale (Milan University), using the ”Functional Performer” experimental application conceived by G. Haus and developed by A. Stiglitz and C. Pagni on MSX, and by F. Madeddu on Macintosh. It was a real-time application which allowed playing pre-stored musical objects according with user-defined musical functions. They, in turn, were associated to the ASCII keyboard of small computers. A first version of Pro.fumo for “Functional Performer” and two computers was performed in 1988 in Zurich (EUROMICRO 88 — XIV° Symposium on Microprocessing and Microprogramming), and in Rome (7° Colloquio di Informatica Musicale, AIMI/CIDIM/SIM). A second version of Pro.fumo, for Percussion, “Functional Performer” and two computers was performed in Milan (Musica nel Nostro Tempo) in 1989 and Lugano (Computer and Art) in 1990.
