The Sleep of Reason, Section 1 Erik Nyström

The Sleep of Reason loans its title from a famous etching by Goya and has a very complex conceptual framework rooted in extramusical models from science, visual arts and literature. The piece is developed entirely from sinewaves and follows global mathematical system. Section 1 transmits a chain of letters encoded into sound, derived from Alan Moore’s cult comic “The Swamp Thing”. The time structures and frequency intervals depend on information fed back from Section 3.
