Lift Sarah Peebles

“Lift” (2006) is a reduction of a larger 40-minute work, “In the Canopy — Meditations from Paparoa and Kāpiti Island”. Inspired by my experiences on Kapiti Island, in Paparoa park and in the Wellington area. It features the sounds of birds, insects and rivers recorded in Aotearoa (New Zealand), and is dedicated to Aotearoa’s remaining indigenous plants and pollinators — avian and insect. You can’t have flight if you don’t have lift!

This work appears on the benefit album “Delicacies in the Garden of Plenty” along with other selections of live improvised music and electroacoustic works — benefiting food security (secondharvestca.bandcamp.com/album/delicacies-in-the-garden-of-plenty). “Lift” was included in the exhibit, Audiosphere. Sound Experimentation 1980—2020 at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Spain, October 14th to February 15, 2021. www.museoreinasofia.es/en/exhibitions/audiosphere
