When desert sands contain the proper size and shape of grain, the appropriate amount of silicone, are of a particular humidity, and are shifted by winds in a specific pattern, they can sing a variety of tones. Eolian Erosion explores this phenomenon, manipulating a single sound source through a series of morphological processes, eroding the initial grain of a processed sound to eventually reveal the tone and texture of its original, unprocessed self. The work also draws inspiration from the ever-expanding Alberta oil sands project, a monument to environmental degradation that now extends to desert-like proportions.
