Maya James Wyness

In the philosophy of non-dualism, maya is the illusion of a limited, purely physical and mental reality in which our everyday consciousness has become entangled. The world draws us into its vortex of confusion and misery as we try to embrace it. There is no escape for us from this world of illusion, unless we wriggle out of our individualities and realise our true nature.

This piece is an abstract sonic working of these concepts. It also explores the process of creation, preservation and destruction through their parallels in the acoustic properties of attack, sustain and decay. As new events are created, previous events are sustained and others are destroyed, mirroring the struggle for self-realisation and the micro- and macrocosmic workings of the physical and mental universe. Given the inter-relationships between energy, matter and vibration it seemed appropriate to explore these issues through sound.
