Cellular Activity Zorina Bacchus

Under a microscope in a university science lab, sound recordings were made from a living cell that originated from a region of the brain that is understood to be responsible for memory. What is heard are the action potentials of the cell, and are described by spaces that interrupt the electrical stream in a highly textured world of all possible occuring frequencies. This piece was composed with the idea of creating a sound environment made up of few simple streams perceived from the sounds from the cell recordings. The streams that can be distinguished represent how activity in the body may re-create the exterior world as an inner environment, all be it, in a randomly perceived way.
