The material for Magic Piano was initially created during a residency in the summer 2010 at the ZKM studios in Karlsruhe (Germany). Later on, I used those recordings to compose Magic Piano. The piece is based only on piano sounds. The challenge was to expand piano’s sonic possibilities and to reveal fresh, interesting sonorities. The sound sources of the work come from around, below and inside a grand piano that is played in various unconventional, virtuosic ways.
