Przypadek is the Polish word for coincidence. It is also the title of a film by Krzysztof Kieslowki that partly inspired this piece. The film explores how a seemingly insignificant event can drastically affect one’s future. I tried to represent this idea in the use of randomness and chance devices. Certain moments in this piece rely on field recordings, but the majority of the material explores the computer’s ability to replicate and extend real world sounds. Some the recorded sounds used in this piece could be considered quite banal on their own, but they become more significant when juxtaposed with seemingly similar computer-generated events that create a kind of extra-real atmosphere.
