Pôles Claude Périard

Pôles represents the natural movement between solstices, as two long cross-fades. Also this movement can be seen as the tension oscillating between positive and negative electric poles and the sinusoidal shape of a sound wave. It presents two naturalistic soundscapes which get progressively synthetic, as a natural landscape painting would transform into abstract forms. Those two episodes — summer and winter — reach an electrical paroxysm that represents the technologification of the world. The melodic singing of a bird, the white-throated sparrow, acts like a leitmotiv all through the piece, which begins and ends on a desert wind. Globally, Pôles talks about our relation with nature and technology.
