No Safe Passage Nick Lavigne

No Safe Passage is a 5-channel, acousmatic piece in three movements: I. At Sea, II. Old Home and III. Nowhere. The sound sources derive from personal field recordings gathered over the last year and a half, as well as new field and studio recordings created specifically for this composition. The piece explores the ideas of space, memory, location and loss through the layering, rearranging and transformation of familiar sounds, creating three different and abstract sonic “pictures”. It was composed while thinking about the ongoing refugee crisis in the Middle East and Europe which has seen thousands of people lose their homes, families and lives while attempting to flee from dangers in their home countries. This piece is dedicated to those people and their suffrage.
