Two Poems by H.D. Jamie Dunkle

These two poems, “Oread” and “The Pool,” were written by the Imagist poet H.D. The æsthetic ideals of the Imagist manifesto were an inspiration for the sound materials of this piece and their manner of presentation: the terse, literal representation of objects in these lines in synergy with the pacing and orchestration of early musique concrète. With these styles as a reference, this piece is an attempt to give a close reading of the psychological narrative of each poem, accentuating and illustrating them as they are spoken. Hence the goal is not to deconstruct or reinterpret the meaning of these poems or the quality of the voice, but rather to provide them with an aural resonance.
