Urban Gardens Pierre-Luc Senécal

Urban Gardens was composed with sounds recorded during a trip in Europe in the summer of 2016. On this continent, where it is still possible to roam freely, airports, train stations, malls and parks can be considered as public spaces that one can discover on foot, by train, etc. For this composition, I was thus inspired by the inexhaustible energy of those objects and locations. The second part refers to the twenty or so World War II museums and memorial sites that I’ve visited. In contrast to the vivaciousness of the piece, the soundscapes retrieved on site in various concentration camps evoke the tranquility, but also the gloomy traces that remain on those barren lands, those “public gardens.” Somehow, Urban Gardens reflects my belief that Life goes on. Even after the disaster.
