Metamorphosis for Strings (2020)6:24
Metamorphosis for Strings is a composition arranged out of processed recordings from the composer’s two sound sculptures, the Medulla and the Gigercello I. Both instruments, which can be bowed, scratched or hit, are creations assembled out of abandoned metals and strings. Metamorphosis is used as a way to fuse two dissimilar sound worlds into one unity. Perceptual pitches appear throughout the piece but are often blurred by complex spectral elements such as noise or multi-layering, creating an identity of its own. The composition proves itself by not only showcasing the sound sculpture’s sonic capabilities but by showing the audience what can be created out of rejected materials. Metamorphosis for Strings is a strong follow-up to the composer’s two latest works, Cthulhu and Spinal Forms, which both primarily use the Medulla and the Gigercello I.
