Listen To What Remains David C. Gale [D.C. Gale]

All sounds in Listen To What Remains were created with a small analogue modular system, a. recycled spring reverb unit, a. simple bucket-brigade delay device and four-track cassette tape. Composed from October 2020 to January 2021, the piece is intended as an abstract narrative on the passage of time and space during a global pandemic coupled with significant political and social upheaval. Tuning, harmony, dissonance, duration and rhythm are presented here as actors to perform a deconstruction of strange days, intimacy, sudden distance, sickness, violence, mortality and compassion. As we grow to find new presence in the world, how do we want to live, going forward? How do we do so in a positive and sustainable way? What is left after such an interference? What remains is, ultimately, up to the listener. [The piece begins with 15 seconds of silence.]
