Sketches of Shamanic Ecstasy (2017)7:06
A shamanic journey is one that generally takes place in a trance state to the sound of a drumbeat, through dancing, or by ingesting psychoactive drugs, in which aid is sought from beings in other realities, generally for healing purposes or for divination. The music in a shamanic ritual performance has the distinctive feature of discontinuity. Breaks may happen because a spirit is proving difficult to communicate with, or the shaman needs to call a different spirit. Typically, phases of the performance are broken off abruptly with the music continuing after a rest.
This work is not a portrayal of a Shamanic journey or Shamanic music, but like all music, suggests a journey, in which discontinuity and trance are used to achieve an experience.
