Where the Bees Buzz (2021)23:00
Where the Bees Buzz is a part of a series of works based on ambisonic field recordings I took at many locations in the Peace Region of northwestern Alberta, Canada. This title refers to the fact that the Peace Region is a primary honey production region in Canada.
The first piece in this series is Peace of Home, a one hour radiophonic soundscape composition consisting of the field recordings.
Where the Bees Buzz is the second work in the series featuring select field recordings from around Beaverlodge, Alberta with electroacoustic music accompaniments inspired by those recordings.
I wish to thank Northwestern Polytechnic Music Department for the loaner of the ambisonic field recording equipment. The National Bee Diagnostic Centre for the awesome and inspiring tour through their facilities. I also wish to thank the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, the Edmonton Arts Council and the Alberta Media Arts Alliance Society for their kind financial support at various stages of the production process. I also wish to thank the Koidu Seltsimaja in Viljandi, Estonia for the studio space to do my work.
